This course explores the fundamental concepts of peace, conflict, and security in a multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria. It examines the forms, types, and root causes of conflicts and violence and highlights strategies for conflict resolution and peacebuilding. Special attention is given to the roles of international organizations, media, traditional institutions, and community leaders in fostering peace. The course also introduces students to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) mechanisms and discusses post-conflict management, including addressing the plight of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
