1. INTRODUCTION TO MACROMOLECULES

1.1. Formation of Macromolecules

HOW ARE MACROMOLECULES FORMED?

Macromolecules are formed through a chemical process called polymerization. This involves condensation of two or more monomeric units of either of the corresponding subunits.

Steps involved in macromolecule formation
  1.  Joining together of two or more Monomers in a chain.
  2. Water molecules are then released as by products.
  3. The monomers share electrons and form covalent bonds.
  4. As more monomers join, the chain grows in size.
