In the 21st century, there has been a shift in Nigeria's health priorities. Public health policies now also include efforts to address mental health and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer, which are increasingly prevalent due to lifestyle changes and aging populations.

• Mental Health Policy: The Nigerian government is working on integrating mental health care into the general health system, with increasing recognition of the importance of addressing mental health issues like depression, schizophrenia, and anxiety disorders.
• National Policy on NCDs: Efforts to tackle heart disease, diabetes, and cancer have been ramped up, with initiatives to raise awareness about the risk factors and improve treatment options.
