2. Rural Health Challenges

  1. Limited Access to Healthcare Services:

Rural areas in Nigeria often have few healthcare facilities and those that exist are typically underfunded and under-resourced. Many villages do not have primary health centers (PHCs) or, if they do, these centers are often ill-equipped and lack essential medical supplies.

Even when healthcare services are available, transportation barriers (poor road infrastructure) and long distances to healthcare facilities prevent many rural residents from seeking care.

  1. Shortage of Healthcare Professionals:

There is a severe shortage of healthcare professionals in rural Nigeria. Many qualified doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel prefer working in urban areas where there are better working conditions, opportunities for career advancement, and higher wages.

This shortage leads to overburdened health workers in rural settings, which affects the quality and timeliness of healthcare delivery.
