The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) is the official professional and trade union body representing nurses and midwives in Nigeria. It advocates for the rights, welfare, and professional development of Nigerian nurses.

Founded: In line with the Trade Unions Act to unify and represent all Nigerian nurses and midwives.

Affiliation: Member of the International Council of Nurses (ICN).

Headquarters: Abuja, Nigeria.


FUNCTION OF NANNM

Professional Development:

Ensures continuous education and training for nurses.

Organizes workshops, seminars, and certifications.

Advocacy & Welfare:


Negotiates better wages, working conditions, and rights for nurses.

Engages with the government on healthcare policies.

Regulation & Ethics:


Works with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) to enforce professional standards.

Ensures ethical nursing practices.

Public Health & Awareness:

Engages in community health programs and initiatives.

Promotes maternal and child health services.

International Collaboration:

Partners with global organizations like the WHO and ICN to improve healthcare services.

Definition : Association is a group of people organised for a joint purpose.

1     Advocate for the interest of nurses  at local, state and national level.

2     Can influence health care policies  and promote the rights and welfare of nurses.

3     they have a collectuive voice and access to support during professional challenges.

4     providing relevant and timely information about practice, education, role development, research , policy and regulatory development.

5    A forum for sharing and exchange of knowlege, expertise and experience.


     6     flushing quakkery out of the system.

7      Making sure that its members follows the rule and regulation laid down by the authorities.

8      Encouraging members to further thier education.

9     Forming of coorporative groups.

10     preparing  its members for retirement (work shops, end well system).

11    Ensuring to protect its member (injury to one injury to all)
