2.1 Intelligent Systems overview
Intelligent systems are machines that are technologically adanced to perceive and respond to their surrounding environment. Intelligent systems have revolutionized a number of industries such as security, manufacturing, transportation, and logistics. They have helped in improving the quality, energy efficiency and flexibility of the systems. One of the ways through which intelligent systems perceive their environment is through vision. The study of how computers can interpret visual information started in the 1950s. Since then, it has become a more powerful technology and has been implemented in commercial, industrial and government sectors. Some of the factors that have contributed to this growth include improved processor speed, advanced algorithms, and increased memory capacities. The field of intelligent systems also focuses on studying how systems interact with humans and influence changes in dynamic social and physical environments. Early robots had very limited autonomy in decision-making; they assumed the world was predictable and relied on repeating the same actions whenever similar conditions occurred.
