Objectives

The objectives of the course are to:

1. prevent the worsening of a patient’s medical condition.

2. promote recovery

3. help for ensuring safe transportation to the nearest healthcare facility

4. management of bleeding & infection

5. management of CPR

6. management safety of first- aider

Overall Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of the role and responsibilities of a first aider.
  2. Identify emergency situations that require first aid.
  3. Conduct a primary and secondary survey to assess the condition of a casualty.
  4. Conduct a full-body examination and monitor vital signs.
  5. Correctly use wound dressings, bandages, CPR aids, and other first aid kit contents.
  6. Provide first aid treatment in various emergency situations.
  7. Demonstrate disaster management skills and handle multiple casualties.

Module 1: Introduction to First Aid

  • Definitions and aims of First Aid
  • When and how to call Emergency Services
  • Principles of treatment and patient approach
  • Scene safety and patient examination

Module 2: Injury and Medical Condition Management

  • Introduction to wounds, bleeding, burns, and scalds
  • Head and spinal injuries
  • Seizures and epilepsy
  • Breathing assessment and treatment
  • Shock and fainting
  • Unconsciousness and recovery position
  • Asphyxia, foreign bodies, and chemical splashes

Module 3: Trauma and Emergency Situations

  • Fractures, sprains, strains, and dislocations
  • Incidents requiring CPR
  • Management of poisoning
  • Practical skills in using dressings, bandages, and first aid kits
  • Mass casualty and disaster management

Module 4: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • CPR theory and practical skills
  • Using CPR dummies and first aid kits for practice
