Preventing type 2 diabetes requires realistic changes that fit into our everyday lives . Many households depend on meals like tuwo, tuwo masara, amala, rice and pounded yam. Eating these in moderation and combining them with vegetables such as ugu, moringa, okra, or bitter leaf can help reduce blood sugar spikes. People should also reduce their intake of fried foods and sugary snacks often sold in markets and schools. Replacing soft drinks with water, sugar-free zobo, or unsweetened kunu is a simple step toward better health.

Physical activity is another powerful tool. In places like Minna , more people now take evening walks or join community exercise groups. Women’s cooperatives also organize weekly “keep fit” sessions at primary school fields. Farmers already get good exercise through their daily work, but they can improve further by reducing sedentary habits after farm hours.

Cultural events can promote awareness too. During community gatherings, local health workers can teach people about healthy cooking and diabetes prevention. For example, some community are been sponsored to often conducts free blood sugar tests and health talks .

Eating wisely, more exercise , and checking blood sugar regularly can greatly reduce diabetes risk across .
