Type 2 diabetes mellitus can be prevented through healthy lifestyle changes that help the body regulate blood sugar properly.

These changes include eating a balanced diet, doing regular exercise, managing stress, and getting enough rest and sleep. Avoiding too much sugar and junk food, and eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, and protein, helps control blood sugar levels. Reducing sweetened drinks also lowers glucose and keeps the body healthy.

In my locality, foods like beans, vegetables, unripe plantain, brown rice, and fish are good for preventing diabetes because they contain less sugar and more fiber. Physical activities such as walking or light exercise help the body use insulin better and control weight.

In my community, there is a woman who was told she had high blood sugar and was at risk of diabetes. The doctor advised her to start eating healthy, exercise regularly, and take her medicine as prescribed. She followed these instructions carefully and later noticed that her blood sugar level started improving. Now she continues with her medication, eats balanced meals, and exercises every morning. It has really helped her, and she is using this method to prevent her diabetes from getting worse — and it’s working well for her.
