2. Gamete Transport
2.1 Sperm Transport
- Sperm deposited in vagina → cervix → uterus → fallopian tubes.
- Facilitated by:
- Cervical mucus (fertile type)
- Uterine contractions
- Flagellar movement
2.2 Capacitation
- Biochemical change enabling sperm to fertilize an oocyte.
- Occurs in the female reproductive tract (≈7 hours).
- Removes inhibitory factors → increases motility.
2.3 Oocyte Transport
- Oocyte released at ovulation into the fallopian tube (ampulla).
- Cilia and peristalsis move it toward uterus.
- Fertilization window: 12–24 hours after ovulation.
